FAQs

TRYOUTS What to Expect

  • BEFORE TRYOUTS

What families should know BEFORE registering for tryouts:

    1. Regent's goal is for every player to be successful (i.e., have fun, compete, meet new friends, and improve soccer skills).

    2. There are 2 program options for the 11U-14U age groups.

    • GOLD ("developmental"), OR
    • BLUE ("competitive")

These programs differ in cost and committment.

It is important to understand these differences before committing to a program.

    3. Why do we have tryouts?

    Tryouts ARE a Placement Tool

    • We use the tryout process to place players on teams 11U & older.
    • Players will be placed on either a Blue or Gold team

Tryouts ARE NOT a Judgment Tool to exclude or drop players.

    4. In order for a MAYSA roster to be approved, ALL players are required to have -

    • their DOB verified by the Club Administrator (i.e., POB Verification) if they have not already done so, and
    • a current photo uploaded to their profile during registration

    5. Any player who wants to play in the Blue Program MUST be registered for Tryouts and be evaluated, even if they are unable to attend their age group's tryout dates.

    6. There will be a Tryout Informational Meeting via ZOOM before tryouts (typically in May - exact dates TBD).

    7. Tryout registration is NOT the same as program registration - they are separate registrations with separate fees.

    • Tryout registration closes 24 hours before the first day of each age group's tryout
    • Tryout registration fees increase if registering onsite
  • DURING TRYOUTS

    1. Tryout registration fees must be paid in full by the 1st day of tryouts - whether online or onsite.

    2. Each age group will have 2 nights of tryouts (1.5 hrs each night)

    • Players are expected to attend both nights
    • Girls and boys try out at different times

    3. Players are expected to come prepared and ready to play

    • We suggest arriving at least 30 minutes before the start of their tryout
    • Dress appropriately & bring plenty of water, sunscreen, etc.

    4. Parents are encouraged to stay for the Parent Meeting held as soon as players take the field on the 1st day of each age groups tryout

    • Parents can run errands, take a walk, or stay in the parking lot while tryouts are in session, however parents are not allowed on or near the field.

    6. Make sure contact information is up to date in PlayMetrics in the event we need to reach you during tryouts

  • AFTER TRYOUTS

    1. An "Offer letter" will be sent to each player's parent or guardian via PlayMetrics.

    • Offer notifications begin mid-June - there is a link to register within the offer.
    • An offer will designate which team the player is being offered a roster spot on (Blue or Gold).
    • If you accept the offer, you will be taken directly to PlayMetrics to complete registration and payment
    • Payment plans will be available - registration fees must be paid in full by November 1st
    • Scholarships are available for eligible players -- see our Scholarship page for more information about eligibility and how to apply.
    • Once a player is registered for a Regent team, that player is committed to the club for the seasonal year (8/1 – 7/31). The WYSA player transfer policy takes effect at this time.

    2. Once an offer is made, players have 24 hours to accept or decline.

    • If you will be gone during Offers, please designate a representative who can accept/decline on your behalf and arrange for payment to be made to the Club.
    • You may also contact the club administrator and communicate your wishes.

    3. Regent uses tryout evaluations to place ALL players who register for Blue Tryouts.

ALL players will receive an offer for the upcoming playing year on one of the following teams:

    • A Blue team (Azzurri/Azzurre, Royal, Indigo, Sky)
    • A Gold team (team names will be decided as teams are formed)

    4. Uniforms are on a 2-year cycle - Fall 2024 was the start of a new cycle year.

    • If your player was on a Regent team during the 2024-25 playing y ear, they are not required to purchase another uniform (unless they have out grown or lost it).
    • If your player was not on a Regent team during the 2024-25 playing year, they will receive an invite from Soccer Post (formerly Stefans soccer) to order their uniform shortly after registration.

    5. A team meeting (coaches, parents, & players) will be held shortly after teams are formed to go over expectations and team logistics (identify a team manager, discuss practice plans & tournaments, etc.)

    6. Additional payments will be due to the team manager typically before the start of each season to cover coach, referee, and tournament fees
