2010-06-25

11:00am session for players u13 and older
Location: Odana Hills Park, 5201 Milward Dr., Madison
Line up for 2010.
Last years grand experiment was 2 sessions and it seemed to work. So we'll continue with that arrangement for 2010
9:30am session for players up to U12 (the last year of 8v8 game play)
11:00am session for players u13 and older (all 11v11 game play)
Please be sure to fairly evaluate your player before deciding which session to join.
Please, do NOT choose the later and older age group just because your child likes to sleep in late.
Location.
Our usual location continues to work out really well, with a great deal of field flexibility including shade near the pitch. So we'll continue this year at:
Odana Hills Park, 5201 Milward Dr., Madison. Go to the 4900/5000 block of Odana Rd., turn south (at the west end of the golf course) onto Wedgewood Way. Go two blocks, turn right onto Milward Dr. Field is on the left.
Here's the details and general routine:
Note the start times are an attempt to adjust for sleepy heads, but still get games in before it gets too hot. We go for about 1.5 hours all together for each session including organizing times and breaks.
The various coaches, bring some balls, flags, cones, and penies. We act as starters, help the kids form up teams, mark up an appropriate sized field, depending on numbers of players, do just enough refereeing to arbitrate major disputes, make the kids take breaks particularly for water. NO COACHING other than "whoa what a goal".
These are pick up and strictly fun soccer games.
The games are open to any and all kids. Generally we get kids from about ages 8 to 17, with the highest concentrations in the 10 to 14 age range. Girls and boys alike. Siblings too. The number of players vary from lows of 5-10 kids to highs of 50+ kids. It's who ever is in town and wants to play.
Also this year we anticipate holding our Third Annual 3v3 Fun Mini-Tourney on Labor Day, Monday September 6th.
VERY BRIEF RULES:
- Wear shin guards and cleats.
- Wear WHITE shirts. They are cooler and with our various coaches pinnies it makes setting up teams much easier if all the kids are in white t-shirts.
- BRING WATER BOTTLES, with just water.
- Make sure you make your own arrangements for transportation, drop offs, pick ups etc. Many parents like to just hang in the park and watch especially after a side trip to various coffee emporiums for caffeine products. And yes you're welcome to bring some for the coaches too.
- If your child has medical concerns like asthma or allergies to bee stings etc. Make sure you've done whatever is necessary to deal. Coaches do bring cell phones with them.
To start off the season we want to make sure to thank everyone who helps make our summer fun games possible including coaches Robin, Mark, Jody, Freddie, Ed, Chris and Rob as well as the terrific manager of Regent fields Craig and all the parents so adept at making popsicle runs. If you're a Regent coach you're welcome to pitch in as there's no way we can manage every Sunday amongst our selves. See me or Robin on the fields or zip us an email and we can discuss what needs doing.
See you on the pitch. Mark and Robin
